A trunk Show worth watching!

Meet Susan McEachern from the Kennebecasis Valley Quilt Guild....appliquer and quilter extraordinaire.  She came to visit and show her wonderful quilts and talk about her journey through the quilting world.
This wonderful quilt was appliqued by her friends in Montreal...a friendship quilt that she treasures.
A whimsical quilt...I believe she said it was a block of the month....

This lovely pastel quilt has phenomenal quilting on it and won a ribbon for the same.
Just to show that she does a few out of the box for her.
Hawaiian applique and gorgeous.
Another sweet applique wall hanging.
A Tisket A tasket...a Bunny Hill design,
Celtic work that shows how intricate and detailed some applique can get.
This beauty is one of more that won ribbons for Susan at the KVQuilt Show.  A Traditional Dresden, exceptionally well done and exquisite.

There were many more pieces that Susan brought to show us and well worth seeing. She is an expert at applique and does amazing work.

Ann had a birthday!

The big 70 is the number used for recognition and Ann has been waiting for it for a looooong time.  Well, here is the proof...right Vera?? A great marble cake with yummy icing.
Not only did Ann get a cake, that bag she is holding onto for dear life is full of fat quarters.  Now the reason she is holding on so tightly is that we all would like to get our hands on it.

It will be interesting to see what she makes with her fat quarters...knowing Ann it will be worth seeing.  Cheers and here's wishing you many more, Ann.

Program Day, March 24, 2015

This portion of the post will be about show and tell only.  Here are the quilting ladies working on a really pretty nine patch.
Marilyn made a "sew Together " bag and found it smaller than she wanted...still looks great to me.
Then she showed us her men's cosmetic bags that she made using a 10 inch square with a zipper.  Neat technique.
Here's a novel idea....a dish drying mat with pockets sewn on one end.  fill with scissors, threads ..what ever you need to take to class. Use it under your sewing machine and then when ready to go home.  roll up the mat with utensils inside.  Slick hey?
I love every variation of this nine patch quilt.  Each one is sooo different and so pretty. Marilyn used charcoal for her grouting and sashing and it works so well.
Carol made this miniature mat...well done.
Then she showed us this mystery quilt she did at KV......
 Andrea's version
Sue's version..  They all look so different.  Hear tell, they called it a 'misery' quilt.  Wonder why?

Gillian surprised us all with her proficiency.  Look at all the bags she produced.  Love that denim one she is holding up.
Ellen Henderson made her cuddle quilt from the challenge . Hers was hand done..the traditional way.
Gail did hers as well but she used the machine..the modern way.
Helen is hiding behind her masculine  flannel cuddly quilt.
No scrappy for Susan...colour coordination is the name of the game for her with this wonderful nine patch ...all finished.
block of the month all done...
sweet cardinal wall hanging...
Judy did some tatting of a book mark to go in the mail for a friend.
She also made this prayer shawl for her church group.
now this is something different...boobs!  they are for the cancer centre  to be used a prostheses for ladies unable to afford commercially made. A very thoughtful thing to make.
Evelyn made a cuddle quilt to bring our numbers up.
 Carolyn made humbug bags.
Renate made a Sweet Sixteen bag and a carry all for crafters..decided it was too small and is going to redraft for a larger one.
She had fun with her squedge ruler
for the front and the back...ingenious.
Renate finished her block of the month.
Jean made a little bibbed apron for her grand daughter.....
and a bonnet to go with it.
knit some hats......
and made a cuddle quilt for a friend.
Judy got her broken star table topper made.

and then played with triangles.....

see, I told you she played!!
Lastly, Marilyn showed us a purse she was gifted made from a leather jacket...talk about great recycling..!.

Business day 10, March 2015

Sussex Vale Quilters' Guild makes a lot of comfort quilts...hand quilting them as well. Here's another wonderful example of a quilt that will go to someone in need.  Quilters are generous, caring people.
Helen is hiding behind this amazing table topper...I think she told us it was made using a 'squedge'...whatever she used, it sure looks great.
This is only one of three spicy spiral table runners that Helen made as gifts for her doctor's staff.  hmmm, maybe I should have gotten a job there.

Muriel found this technique on the internet and just had to give it a try....she certainly chose the right colours ...it is great..now we need to see it quilted.
Here's a top she bought at a yard sale...I won't repeat what she paid for it...just let me say that she got a real bargain.. Brought it home and quilted it and look at it , it is sweet.
She also finished her crayon quilt. That was a fun project, I must say.
Gillian got inspired and made herself a sweet sixteen bag.
Agathe chose batiks and balis for her Scrappy Nine and look at how it turned out.  Beautiful!!
Vivian has been quietly working away and here is her cuddle quilt challenge ...ready before June, too.

This beauty will be going to the Stan Cassidy Centre in Fredericton to cheer the patients there.

This quilt will be a comfort quilt for a friend of Vivian's that is going through chemotherapy. It's full of inspirational and caring words.
Here's Vivian's scrappy nine with white grouting and sashing.  It works extremely well .
Ethel is cleaning up UFO's and here is an apron she received from a pen pal.

This snowflake pattern was Ethel's project of choice at the Villa Madonna last year and here it is all quilted and bound and looking marvelous.

Susan inherited some squares and fabric and finished this triple Irish Chain that she will be passing along.
I recognise those appliqued squares. They look great ...surprise, surprise.
Now this is wonderful...Love Blooms Here ....a block of the month from Quiltmaker that Susan did such an amazing job on.
Jackie got her cuddle quilt challenge made...hers is called Snowballs in July.  Well done, Jackie,
Judy is following Ethel's example and cleaning up UFO's...what is it about March that makes quilters want to get project done???  These mittens are very unique...the show how the colour prominence is achieved.
and this double wedding ring table runner is working out very well.
Renate got her cuddle quilt pieced and quilted.
and she made some more sweet sixteen bags...they are sooo practical.

She also got a start on her Scrappy Nines.

Joan's doing the same...cleaning up ufo's and here's one done....
and another.
This one, I believe, is the one Joan plans on keeping for herself to cuddle under.
Jean got her Scrappy Nine done and decided this was big enough......
even though she had enough squares to do another....
Here's another of Jean's cuddle quilt challenge...
Marlene and Kay finished off the show and tell with two panelled cuddle quilts they quilted and brought in.   We should be good for a while with regards to cuddle quilts.  The nice thing about this group is when the call comes out for more, the response is phenomenal...great bunch of gals!!!!
