A fun Day despite the weather

by the time I remembered to take my camera out to take some pictures of our programme day, Sandra Carter had won the "guess the block name" contest.  Out of the twelve patterns to name she got nine of them right...smart cookie got a fat quarter for it, too.

The next game was funny and fun....dress the bride in toilet paper.  We had three teams and here is team number three dressing Judy Hughes.
Team number two getting Jean Thompson all dolled up...I was with team number one and Renate was our model.
Here are the lovely brides...notice Judy's fascinator....

She stepped on her train and lost it...poor bride.

Renate looks like runaway mummy....she was tucked in pretty tight there and will probably find pieces of the paper later...Good fun and a few laughs..best therapy in the world.
Helen made this sweet place mat for her grand daughter...I have a feeling it will be chocolates in the pockets instead of cutlery.
and here we are ...we're such gamblers...playing Strip Poker...Leigh was the winner here after a hard fought battle with strips of fabric going back and forth...we'll be playing this at the Villa Madonna for sure. I need a few more chances to win the srips somehow.
Show and tell started with a jean quilt that Muriel and her sister in law made. They donated it to our comfort quilt programme.
Vera made this orange and teal quilt from a kit she bought while in Ottawa last year.  Turned out pretty darn nice there, Vera.
Jean put together a scrappy cuddle quilt..she's always bringing in sweet quilts for the project.
Susan made her cuddle quilt and brought it in ,too.
This beautiful piece of fabric came from Thailand via Ann's grand daughter...she said this stunning fabric cost only four dollars....wow!
She also brought in her cuddle quilt...nice bright colours.
Evelen showed us this sweet child's quilt.
Lilliane got her Block of the Month chickens or are they roosters?  done in a table runner.
Joan did a striped quilt as you go cuddle quilt.
Leigh made this bright quilt for our Chemo quilt project....she also brought in an anti -ouch pouch and matching drain bag....well done!
and this is cuddle quilt she is still working on.
 Sandra quilted this cuddle quilt.
and Marilyn got into her knitting...this gorgeous cowl has wooden buttons...for some reason the picture I took of the quilt she brought in did not come out...you can see it folded over the back of the chair...it is a lap quilt she made for a friend undergoing chemo.

Quilters are such generous and kind hearted people...I had one lady tell me at one time she felt she wasn't nice enough to be a quilter and now we know what she meant.

March 8, 2016

90 years young !

Happy Birthday to Mary Lawson!

Susan got this wonderful kit for a Christmas present and put it together....isn't it gorgeous.  She told us that after washing the centre panel she ran into a lot of difficulties putting it all together...only she can tell where..we think it is beautiful.
This is Susan's mystery block from Quiltmaker magazine.  She chose colours based on their recommendation and it worked out beautifully.

Running into a contrary google gremlin that is putting the pictures out of order.  This is Muriel showing us the eight inch squares she is knitting out of orphan balls of yarn.  It will all be put together as blankets for the refugee crisis. What a great way to use up scrap yarn.
Here's Ethel , cleaning up her UFO's.  This beautiful vest is reversible.
Here's a comfort quilt top she made for the

ladies to quilt when they are ready.
Joan brought in her star quilt that was a block of the month at the Quiltery.  Stunning ....her colour choices are always right on the money!!
Helen got into the door prize challenge and put together some wonderful pieces to be included in the draw.  Wonder if I can participate????
Judy Hughes made this set of pillow cases...asked hubby if he could sleep on these and he replied  "sure, my eyes will be closed"...
This is the bureau runner she made along with night table toppers ....gorgeous colours there Judy.
Jean put together this cuddle quilt, well ahead of the rest of us that will be making ours next program day along with anti-ouch pouches.  It should be a good day...but then any day sewing is a good day.....

Evening Ladies, March 7, 2016

Marilyn made this Emmaline Bag with the frame that she ordered on line.  Those are pins and needles on the fabric.
and then she showed us what she can do with "leftovers"  This fabric came from a quilt she made  and these are pot holders
and oven mitts...clever, clever there , girlie!!!
This beauty is Linda's quilt as you go.  She did it all by machine and wasn't in love with it when finished  The picture does not do it justice with the tiny red borders and sashing...it's gorgeous.
Wendy tried a new technique...a quilt as you go , as well.  This one is made  making a tube, cutting as per directions and then creating a Bargello.  she appliqued the butterflies after.  What a great job!
This beauty is a quilt she put together using fat quarters and now has the dilemma of  how to quilt it. We should all be so lucky!
Renate got her chickens in a row...it's the day timer's block of the month..what a fun project .
Here are two more ironing board and ruler carriers .

Renata and Jeannie are ready to go....
Jeannie had this in the works for a few years and finally got it done...feels good to get your PHD finally....didn't know you were so smart, did you,Jeannie??
