Program Day
Our guild hosted members from the Akerley and Area Quilt Guild for a day of shopping, show and tell, trunk show and lunch.
Spruce It Up Quilt Shop owner Lorette Cole along with Sally Spence set up a display of products from the store for our shopping pleasure. Lorette's shop has been in business for 10 years selling quilting products and renting time on their longarms and one feature on their Facebook page is a Parade of Quilts on Sunday.
On March 18, 2024 "Passion for Patchwork" aired on CTV. if you missed CTV's Alana Pickrell at the shop, it can be viewed online https://atlantic.ctvnews.ca/video/c2887654-passion-for-patchwork.
Show and Tell
Amazing Talents
On Monday night Lauretta D. showed her Log Cabin retreat project.
Mary Anne's project was from a workshop in 2017 and consists of hand dyed yellow 3D flowers. Take note of the cat in the lower right, so original.
Jane K. is showing her flowered Origami Bag
Sharon R. made some knitted Gnome Ornaments to donate to the Quilt Show.
Paula is holding a Christmas themed project she made with fabrics from Spruce It Up.
Brenda has brought along her Block of the Month Flowers paper pieced quilt. The quilting on each block has been varied to showcase each flower.
Brenda designed this Birdhouse Quilt. This was a KV Challenge and 3D flowers were from Sue M.
Kim has done a Fabric Cupboard Sew-A-Long. It was a Row-A-Month project.
Muriel G. has a project made from the pattern used for the Trade Blocks. By using two 10 inch squares, every block has a twin of opposing colour placement. She still has blocks to use in another creation. Credit was given to Agathe for quilting it.
Caroline G. sewed up a Peek-A-Boo Pouch, a Reversible Basket and a Bag with Pockets.
What nice, new storage solutions!
Judy S. showed off her tatted hearts. They are beautifully intricate!
Jean T created a colourful Trade Block Bag. Members made sure she mentioned that she had made the jacket she was wearing.
Joan S showed us a quilt made in shades of purples. She made many stars to complete this project and she gave credit to Agathe for quilting it.
Beth A's quilt was a Block Of The Month from Fabric Cupboard, The buildings look great in her colour choices.
Susan D. used the Trade Blocks in a runner. Just one of the good ideas in using those blocks..
Judy H. made the little fabric basket that was a Retreat Project made from 3 1/2 inch squares
Vera T is hidden by a lovely quilt she made from 5 inch Moda blocks.
The Akerley Guild wanted us to know about A Celebration of Queens County Quilts. May 25-Sept 21, 2024. It features both vintage and contemporary quilted items.
The Guild Quilt was a true Group effort.
It was a 2 year project that is being offered up for sale. First year. pre-cut packages were given to members to piece the blocks. Second year, several members spent hours hand quilting this beauty. Diane B. took it home and did the binding and Muriel G. made 2 pair of matching pillowcases. The on of a kind label was created by Ethel R.
Lorette Cole from Spruce It Up
Lorette has a history with Madawaska Weavers as well as Costume studies.
We learned a lot about Lorette's life, all of it being told through stories about her quilts, where she lived during that time and other family events. Life according to quilts at the farm.
She has a collection of approx 35 sewing machines.
This was certainly a show not to be missed!!
