A meeting before the Quilt show.

 Here we are finalizing all the many details for the up coming quilt show.  Once we got that out of the way it was show and tell.  Here's Carolyn peeping out over her "Oh Canada" quilt.  Incredible how different and wonderful each one is.

 Vivian is always doing something and it all turns out so well. Here is her fabulous wall hanging with its lame star in the "O" .  Great job, Vivian, as usual....

 Jackie is amazing...show that girl something and away she goes.  Look at this wonderful rooster she put together with fabric...he is behind glass and will be at the quilt show.

And because she is always helping out and often needs an apron she made herself one  Sure do like it...

 Melda tried her hand at prairie points on this terrific pinwheel baby quilt . Way to go, Melda, it looks soft and cozy with those pastel shades.

 Judy got this really neat laundry bag at a yard sale and uses it to transport quilty things.....

 like this advent calendar she made. You can see some of the ornaments on the table. Wonder who that one is for???

Ann knit up this incredibly warm wool sweater for days when she is four wheeling and the wind is a little chilly. She got the yarn on our trip over to PEI. No chilblains for Ann.

 Judy and Cynthia got to go to a retreat and came back with these amazing projects.  A weaving technique with some 3D flowers. Something entirely different and unique to the world of quilting.

Gillian brought in some more of those little baby caps...booties and a sweater...hand knit and  precious.

Marilyn got her disappearing nine patch back from Agathe , who machine quilted it for her.  All ready for the quilt show, right Marilyn???  Judy said you can glue the binding on!

We're Back!!

 We're back after a really quick summer and ready to get down to work.  Here are Jackie and Ann holding up a comfort quilt that Ethel had taken care of...soft and pretty.

Here's another comfort quilt. This is one that Agathe quilted for the guild with a really pretty machine pattern...unfortunately, you can't see it here.

 This is the back and if you zoom in on the picture you can see the lions and the tigers.....gorgeous fabric that is on the back of the next quilt you will see.

This is "Around the Twist" that Ethel did for her son that spent some time in Africa.....some fussy cutting for the centre of some of the twists and , of course, that unique backing.

 This gorgeous top is called Snowflake and Ethel, who's peeking over the top, made this wonderful paper pieced top at the Villa Madonna this past April. Isn't it stunning!

 Gillian has been busy...made this sweet bag and if you notice the basket there, it is full of adorable little girl hats and some crocheted flowers that she is planning on attaching to the hats...busy lady!

 Look at this....Ellen Henderson won these fabrics playing strip poker and made this wonderful table runner to use them up....there's just no slowing this lady down.

 Here's Ellen's block of the month, all finished ...really pretty in blues and pinks.

 Melda got her "Oh Canada" quilt hand quilted.

This is Ann's Scrappy Nine Patch using a technique that she will be teaching on program day in November...get your fabrics ready because it will be a great teaching day with Ann at the helm.

 Bea made this adorable puppy quilt for her grandson....flannels in plaids and really nice Stonehenge backing.

Carolyn's grand daughter made this beautiful nine patch with some signatures in there.  What a wonder keepsake heirloom.  A future quilter for the guild.

 Judy made this beautiful table runner. It's also reversible.

This table topper was made using a technique called the "Three Dudes" and she will be teaching it at one of our program days.....another reason to shop for fabric.  I do like her colour combinations.

 This pretty quilt belongs to Cynthia Vail and was from a challenge at the Quiltery or the Fabric Cupboard...not sure which one. Either way, a great job done with a terrific layout and use of colour.

To completely coordinate the above quilt, Cynthia made a Teddy Bear and pillow to go with it.

 This gorgeous project is the pineapple. Love the applique on the corners...it just seems to make the whole thing pop...well, done

 Renate is peeking over the top of her Block of the Month..her first attempt at hand quilting...I think she likes hand quilting and we'll see more from her as time goes on....

 She's playing with the 60 degree ruler again....I know she likes doing that.

Cynthia and Renate took the same classes to work with their Pfaff machines and had a little fun...here you can see the folios they made with fancy stitches and applique.

 That's also a sewing machine cover that Cynthia is holding...these ladies have been busy.

Thought you might like to see a close up of the bag Cynthia used to bring her pieces in for show.  A lovely gift from her sister with family pictures on it.  Quilting has come a long way.

That's Marilyn hiding behind her faux Cathedral window table runner.

 She enjoyed making the first one so much she went and made another in Christmas colours.

A casserole carrier...really slick.

 A potato bag...yes you read correctly...it's for nuking your potatoes. Pop them in the bag, pop the bag in the microwave and Bob's your uncle...baked potatoes..in the bag.

 Some mug rugs using the 60 degree ruler...just have to challenge yourself sometimes.

 This set of mug rugs is made using another specialty ruler...I believe she called it periwinkle......can that be right...there are so many different rulers available now.

Now this one I know. It was made with Squedge ruler. A great table topper technique that I just have to try.











And last but not least here is a hexagon table topper...you know how much I like hexagons.

Closing Banquet 2014

Sussex Vale Retreat 2014

The Villa Madonna , if you've never been,  is a wonderful place for a retreat.  Here, the first night, with another group dining at a later hour , the ladies graciously seated our group in the private dining room so we could be as giddy, or serious as we liked. It also gave them the opportunity and time to set the tables for the banquet group that were also at the Villa for that night.  The rest of the time, we had our dinners to ourselves...and let me tell you, they fed us extremely well.

Your eyes are not deceiving you, the picture is blurry...I wanted to get everyone in...maybe Ethel put a hex on me for taking her picture too.

Here's our sewing room ...that is Marilyn's Oh Canada quilt...she brought it along for Pat Byrne to use as a guideline in finishing her own top. Isn't it a great room to sew in...so bright..lots of windows, lights, tables, plug-ins, a big screen tv, a small washroom and a library ....who could ask for more.

 This broken star was the highlight  of the retreat. and this picture does not do it justice. The fabrics are stunning and Jean Thompson's workmanship is outstanding.  To top if off, it was a gift...she wasn't even keeping it!!

Ethel sat in the corner, the peanut gallery girl and paper pieced the whole time.  Did some fussy cutting and made a wonderful quilt top for a Christmas project.

Sister helping sister...great to see. Although neither of them seem to actually need help, everything they did turned out so well.

Look at this....little pieces that would boggle the mind of anyone and Vivian Patriquen just pieced away and got it all together.  Amazing work!!

Here's Carolyn's quilt she's been putting together with the evening group. 

Judy was our "go to" girl....you wouldn't believe all the 'stuff' Judy carries with her...between bandages, extra tools, colour advice and assistance when needed, Judy filled the spot.

We have the dates set for next year and three nights again. It worked so well this year...time to shop and get a lot of sewing done as well.  In between the snacks, tea , lunches and knitting at night we all got a lot done.  You should consider joining in next year, it's a great time!!
