Christmas is a comin'

Our Christmas luncheon...I took this picture to show the candy cane reindeer that Cheryl made for everyone in the guild.  She tried to place them secretly , but I caught her in the act. Such a thoughtful thing to do...thanks, Cheryl. Mine is on my tree and staying there until after Christmas at which time I will gobble him up...
Here we are just getting organized for a wonderful meal.  The auxiliary of the United Church is the group that prepared the meal and it was delicious.

Show and tell always is a highlight  and after our meeting and  stuffing our faces with wonderful food we got right down to it.  Here Muriel is showing us her Smitten with mitten table runner that she made as a gift...notice it has Nova Scotia tartan...wonder where it is going???
Joan West had some fun with a little twister and made this Christmas table runner.  It's a fun technique...kind of addictive once you start.
Ethel Raymond did some embroidery. It's an angel that reminds us what is important in life.
Jackie got her table runner finished and someone suggested a name for it....A Cold Day in January....nice thing about her fabric choices...it's a winter one, not just a Christmas runner..
Look at that stack of chemo caps that Jean made. What a wonderful thing to do! Fleece and embellished...nice and toasty warm.
Jean comes to the ladies of the evening meetings and here is the half square triangle technique that she perfected.  Good fabric choice for her card table topper...(will look great on our tables at the next quilt show...right, Jean???)
Despite all that is going on in Vera's life these days she found some time to make a wonderful wall hanging...that's nubby yarn that makes the Christmas tree....lots of texture...wonderful job.
And a circular table topper...again by Vera. Isn't it a pretty one???
Caught ya' blinking , Vera...but that is a cute wall hanging in the smitten with mittens pattern....I haven't made mine yet...still got a couple of weeks...
Pat made this sweet wall hanging for her grand daughter...it's got lots of bees on it.
Hiding behind that sweet table topper is Vivian Patriquen...
And here she is again, hiding!. This wall hanging as she called it, is a joke between her and her pastor.  She does not like to fish and he does. Now he can let the world know what he's doing.
Judy has been knitting up a storm...this maple leaf hat is for her daughter who is running a marathon...in Rome, no less... and Judy felt she should have something uniquely Canadian... That works!!
Plus she has some catching up to do.  This is part one of the BOM and the rest of us are on part two....no doubt when we're back together in the New year , Judy will be caught up and probably way ahead of the rest of us.
Gail Rodgers made the Hexie Table topper in Christmas fabrics.
Ellen did the same...this is the second picture...she hid in the first one....
That's Helen Steeves and THAT is her house and garage. Her son drafted it for her and she hooked it...amazing.  It will be hanging in Government House in Fredericton  the 18th of December .  That's a WOW, Helen!!
This amazing quilt is a gift for Vivian Hayward's son's Mother-in-law...can you believe it!!! the picture does not do it justice and the quilting, as well as the top is extraordinary. Beautiful, Vivian...you did yourself proud!!
This is the second hooked piece that Helen showed us....obviously she has been busy.  What a gorgeous goose. The poinsettia's are wonderful..so vivid and rich in colour.
Marilyn brought in her "Ten Minute Block". It's the one she was demonstrating at the quilt show. Now it is finished(long arm by Agathe) and ready to be shipped off for a Christmas present.    Lucky recipient!

Kay is hiding (as is Marlene ) behind these adorable teddy bear quilts for her grand children.  So sweet, grandma!

That's our last show and tell for the year 2012...we played a game of Left/Right and passed around our fat quarters. Some were reluctant to let go of the ones they liked but others made them so it all worked out in the end.  To all, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy New Year.

November program.

For you "block of the monthers " here is a picture of the next step to do over our Christmas holidays.
We're Smitten with Mittens  this program day and here is Cheryl industriously tracing the pattern for her mittens.
Jean, Carolyn and Marilyn discussing the table runner...isn't it a festive one!
Jackie is such a happy camper and so accommodating when asked to help.  Here, she is finishing up the anti-ouch pouches she made  before tackling her table runner.
The ladies on the quilt had a great day quilting even with their knees a knocking now that they got it down to one more roll and it's done.
Sherry got a start on her Christmas projects.
Here's her bed "scarf"...isn't it a sweet one...How much did you say you spent on those 'nose' buttons....what was that Sherry?  35 cents a piece, wow!! and a teehee for you.
What a sweet baby quilt. Some lucky child will snuggle under that one.
Melda is getting ready for her Christmas decorating as well.  Three dimensional wall hanging with mittens  detachable.
Vera's is back to meetings...we're glad to see and showed us the pillow cases she made to match her BOM from last year..a wonderful Christmas quilt.
Leigh is cleaning out her stash ...thinking she can get it diminished as she goes along...shhhh! don't tell her fabric multiplies when you're not looking.
Here's the Smitten with Mittens Table runner that Marilyn Made to demonstrate the program for today.
And, I just love this...it was a panel that she cut up, appliqued, embellished and created a super wall hanging for a present. It was done in the quilt as you go technique and it is wonderful.
Joan showed us the stocking that she appliqued....grandkids...gotta love them...get one, you make something and then you gotta make 'em for all the grandkids. It's only fair...right , Joan????
Carolyn is having fun with the ladies of the evening and honing her skills in quilting. Here she shows off her table runner where she learned the half square triangle technique.  Way to go, Carolyn!
Then, didn't she go another step and try the English Paper piecing method and make the Hexie table topper in Christmas colors. Great job, Carolyn

There's just no stopping her now.
Jean's sister is a Hooker...not the bad kind...the good kind and hooked this gorgeous wall rug for Jean. It is her daughter's house with their car in front and Jean's grand children in the car.  How's that for talent!
Well, it obviously runs in the family because here is Jean with something she got in a bag at a yard sale, took it home and pieced it all together for a great wall hanging.  You can't read it here, but it says "Do you see" at the top left and down at the lower right it says "What I see?"
Isn't that neat?
Now take a close look at this ...I believe if you click on the picture it will enlarge and you will see the wonderful quilting the ladies have done on this whole cloth quilt. It is stunning!......Bravo , ladies...wonderful job...I have a feeling this one will sell quickly or if we sell tickets it will go over extremely well, it is beautiful...

November meeting

Here they are , all ready to conduct the meeting like the good executive  they are. Cheryl, our secretary , Marj , our treasurer and Muriel, the President extraordinaire....
Ethel showed us our next project...the guild quilt...a double nine patch in muted colours.  Each of the members have the opportunity to participate , remember to NOT use jewel tones or 'brights'.
Ce made this wonderful blanket for her grandchild.
Muriel did her homework for the Block of the Month.
AND her Hexie table topper got finished.
A sweet wallhanging.....two penquins...not quite kissin'.
Ann  has been busy knitting up a storm. This beautiful sweater is just one of the projects she had to show us.
Two Vivians....showing Vivian Patriquin's homework....she got her's done as well.
Leigh and Evelyn....twin quilts...one quilted and one waiting to be quilted..both gorgeous and wonderful examples of black and white quilts.
A table topper or table cloth by Leigh Smith...
Susan Snyder got her hexie table topper done as  well..
I kept this picture, despite its blurriness just to show you the sweet lunch bag Susan made....the sunflower in the front and the dimensional leaves in the back. What a neat ...as she put it "useless quilted thing"...
A baby quilt she appliqued this summer and used a warm , snuggly fleece for the backing.
Another finished program project.
Table toppers with hexies...AND a sweet sixteen bag ...good job...
As usual, Judy finds unique and interesting techniques...this one is a disappearing four patch pinwheel....looks complicated.
Joan brought in her wonderful lap quilt or perhaps a wall hanging for Christmas...would look good on my wall for sure.
and there's Sandra with her snowmen...considered primitive but I think they are more homey...with snaps for coal button smiles...smart cookie.
Carolyn drops into the Evening ladies to hone her quilting techniques and here is her table topper with half square triangles...looking great, girl.  (on a side note, look at how great Martha looks., slim and trim....and...that's my sister-in-law forever in blue jeans).
