Program Day, April 28,2015

We got together to sew a quilt top that will be the raffle quilt for the 2016 quilt show.  Here's Joyce Bean  doing some pressing....notice the staging behind her...it's relatively new and really snazzy.  The church hall is used for a lot of musical evenings and this makes for a great venue.
Ann, Judy, Ethel and Jean all working their little hearts out sewing and cutting and matching and making it all work. It's great to have an assembly line atmosphere when putting together a top and even greater when many hands help out.
Sandra, Helen, Marilyn and yours truly had this station. You can see the new chairs the hall has and are they ever comfortable. They just spoil us so much....
Sheila and Vera are getting the table ready for the lunch crew plus a place for the workers to eat their own lunch before the meeting.  Cheryl is busy working away on her scrappy nine patch...hers has coral grouting and spring/summer flowers in the patches...really pretty and so feminine.
Marlene is one of those quilters that works mostly on larger pieces...however, this is a cuddle quilt...isn't it a great cuddly quilt!
And look at this beauty...the picture does not do it justice...it is stunning...I absolutely love the large border with the Friendship stars in the corners...great job, Marlene ...this one HAS to go in the quilt show  next year...right!!!!
Vera made a charm pack purse but smart lady ...she put larger pockets on hers...one on the inside and one on the outside ...Plus she put a magnetic snap to keep it closed.
Susan went to the Villa Madonna and I think she enjoyed the time...she made this table runner from bright colours and half square triangles

Then she got brave and worked a little out of her comfort zone...not wild and scrappy for Susan...she likes it a little more co-ordinated. However, she makes it , it will be beautiful.
This beauty is another piece she started working on....her finishing applique in the borders...as I said, she does beautiful work.
Lillian felt this fabric was ugly and just had to make something out of it ...so it turned out great and works as a table topper.
These are six wonderful soft bibs she made for a young girl that suffers from Cerebral Palsy....what a generous and kind heart she has.
Melda made this sweet teddy bear with its jointed arms and legs...wonder who it is for?
Leigh is back from the sunny climes and brought this wonderful bargello bag with her.She says she has more to show us...can't wait to see it all...she always brings back such interesting projects.
Jean showed the tree skirt she finished at the Villa...she always get something done while the rest of us plug away at new projects and get nothing finished.
Judy got her cuddle quilt challenge done. She didn't wait for the end of the year to do it.  Brings us up to over 40 cuddle quilts ready to go where needed...sure makes you feel good to know there are kids out there that will use them.
Cynthia made some pillow cases to go with the gorgeous quilt she showed us last time......
and here's the pillow shams that match the wonderful label she put on that quilt.  So well coordinated, that girl....
Renate did the same....matching the fabrics to a quilt she made...here's hoping she has enough to match the second quilt she did using those fabrics...
Hiding behind this quilt is Marj....she quilted this sweet heart quilt for Vivian Patriquin and did a wonderful job....of course, Marj is known for that.
Ha, Ha , Cheryl I caught you.....see her scrappy nine patch with the coral grouting...I can't wait to see it all together...it is going to be so beautiful....

Villa Madonna 2015

Now that I figured out how to transfer pictures on my ipad to my computer you can have a look at what happened at the Villa Madonna this year.  Here's Jean Thompson's table runner...the fabrics in this are wonderful...
Ethel decided she needed some insanity in her life and made this amazing table topper out of teen-tiny half square triangles.....she was still smiling after putting it together so I guess she's still with us...
Carolyn, Joy, JoAnne and Pat  busy working away...
Marilyn got a few projects done and started a hand piecing one just for fun.
Bet you didn't know there was a wine party on the go.  Here the girls are sampling the various wines that came along for the trip and  the tasty dip the cooks made just for us.  Talk about getting spoiled.
Marilyn cutting out her hickory nuts and Muriel walking by on her way to the library where she had her squares spread out.....you can see the black and white (and a little red) quilt below.

If you've never been...here's the dining room...the kitchen is the door at the back...the food is wonderful...home made, plentiful and very, very tasty.  The staff is so accommodating...anything they can do to make your stay comfortable seems to be their role in life..
Oh a cup of tea......and home made cookies....now what more could you want.

Judy got this intricate half square triangles and specific colour placement quilt put together...I believe she said she had it waiting for finishing since he 90's....about time, girl!

Here's Ethel's Bear Tracks...we all fell in love with it...a great stash buster...how much you want to bet there will be a few more to look at before too long.  Well, that was the Villa Madonna for 2015...not enough pictures taken since I got tangled up with a sudoku quilt...not sure I will ever finish that one but it was a great 4 days ...good friends, great fellowship, no cooking, no cleaning...and lots of sewing...a little wine , good food in a great atmosphere.  Life is Good!!

Business day Show and Tell April 2015

Gillian loves making this Sweet Sixteen bag  so much she made some more. This one has the nine patch incorporated into it ....it looks smashing!
Here are a Mommy and Daughter combination of the same pattern.  I think she is having some fun.
Marilyn found this really neat cowl pattern that has three layers that are different lengths and lay on top of each other to form the cowl.  AND the wool is soft and a little fluffy.
Here's her Scrappy Nine Patch...all quilted by Agathe and looking amazing.
Susan brought in this quilt with appliqued squares...wonder where she got those squares?????

A sweet wall hanging from a kit that she got at the Chinese Auction...an original pattern by Joan Smith.
This quilt of Susan's has "Frozen" characters on it. I recognized Olaf for sure.  Bet it is for a grand daughter....then again, maybe it actually is for Susan herself.
Hugs and Kisses.....no not for you...it's the name of the pattern for this quilt.
This beauty is Lilliane Kyle's creation, made for a friend's child. What a creative person Lilliane is...
Helen brought in a quilt....a few years in the making....a disappearing nine patch that took a while  as she ran out of the dark blue fabric she needed.  After some time she decided to use the backing fabric for her binding....it works very well...
Joyce got her cuddle quilt challenge done. Hers is an 'Eye Spy" creation.  I believer everyone that took up the challenge got their quilts done before the deadline of June.  Congratulations , ladies, well done!
The three musketeers got their Block of the Month done...that's Ellen, Gail and Vivian. Wonderful job, you should be proud.
Hiding behind this "small" scrappy nine patch is the one that grumbled about making it the most....Vera , we know it's you behind that gorgeous sample.
Here's the larger one she made...would this be the second or third one???? I'd hate to see how many she'd make of something she loves to do when this is the result of what she doesn't like to do. Come on, now Vera...be truthful, you actually likes making them.....
Carolyn showed us what marathon knitting can do with these afghans her knitting church group did.......
here's another.
Ann made a cuddle quilt...
and showed this finished comfort quilt.
and displayed this quilt from the Historical Society.  Tickets are available from Ann...a toonie for one and $5.00 for three...
Marjorie claimed to 'dislike' piecing as well, but look at this amazing quilt she pieced...for someone that doesn't like piecing she's pretty darn good at it.
Joan made a cuddle quilt and finished up using the fleece for the backings...this one is masculine....
and she made two like this one for little girls.  Way to go, Joan!
Judy made this sweet apron for a little girl and she's not even a grand ma...
And this is her Scrappy Nine Patch.
Jean showed us the prayer shawl she made for her knitting group at church.
as well as a 'cheater' she bought at a yard sale and quilted as a cuddly quilt.
Here's Renate's Scrappy  Nine Patch. It is phenomenal how different and yet how similar these quilts are. What a great pattern and thanks to Ann for sharing...it was a great success this year.
Can't slow a good woman down. Renate made another braid quilt...she thinks if she uses the scraps in her stash it will diminish...no one has the heart to tell her it actually multiplies when she is not looking....teehee...

This beautiful quilt is Cynthia's "One block Wonder" with some wonderful applique in the borders...certainly something I can agree with...
And this wonderful log cabin with appliqued flowers is another quilt I can agree with.  It's my belief that applique always complements a quilt, no matter what the pattern and this one is proof. Lovely!
