January 26, 2016

Our program this day was interesting demonstration on colour, the colour wheel and complimentary colours..how to arrange values and what will draw the eye.  Brenda Dunsmore from the KV and the Akerly quilt guilds was the guest speaker. She gave us a small portion of her day class just to whet our appetite to learn more...perhaps a project day will be forthcoming....
Jackie got her crayon quilt done and used some of  the fancy stitches on her new sewing machine....I think she had some fun that certainly paid off.
Jackie's sister is getting this microwave potato bag.......
and this casserole carrier...lucky woman!
Agathe has been scrap quilting..this beauty along with a second similar one has minke as the backing making them warm and comfy...they go to our Chemo Quilt project and will be fully appreciated.
Ethel is back and brought this wonderful little boy's quilt she made from a panel..you just know some little boy is going to love it.
Lilliane has been playing around with monkeys and can tell you exactly how many tails, legs and arms , and leaves and branches are on this quilt...she quilted it.
Judy is astounding us again with the neatest projects...here she displays another woven techninque....wonky and wonderful.
Leigh has a fascination with bargello and is having some fun with it...here is the bag she made.
and this one is kind of interesting...not sure what the title of it is....
I do know that this little beauty has folded fabric...the rainbow fabric is from one piece and maybe there was some fussy cutting involved. However it was done, it sure is pretty.
Mary Lawson got this wonderful log cabin finished...I believe she said it was an exchange either blocks or fabrics during a villa Madonna retreat....lots of pieces and sewing ....a real challenge.
Cynthia is into making bags both for a young girls group she works with and for her sister.
This charming cat quilt, I believe was a swap with her sister and has a story behind it, with some of the cats having special significance...such a wonderful keepsake..

Ladies of the Evening January 2016

We braved the chilly winter night and had some amazing show and tell.  Here is a block of the day by Chris Finnis....It was supposed to be for the whole year but she decided enough was enough.  Isn't it fabulous!
Here's another project she's finishing up a gorgeous miniature....sure hope she gets it quilted for the quilt show in September.
And just look at the backing she is putting on that miniature...sure do love to see interesting things on the back as well as the front.
Our resident bag lady...Wendy has made a cozy for her scissors...hers turned out to be bigger than mine and I think I prefer hers...maybe it is time for me to make another.

When I say "Bag Lady" I really mean it.  Look at this adorable purse Wendy made...with ruffles...so ultra feminine but that's not the neatest thing about it...she put an inset zipper pocket in it and is hooked ...we will be seeing more of her bags with inset zippered pockets...so smart , that girl!
REnate wowed us with her village...since she was unable to get started on her BOM for the  day guild she made this sweet wall hanging...no flies on REnate...she's too busy.
Wendy had more to show...these are baby blankets she made...I believe for a niece...make some for one ya gotta make some for the other...right , Wendy!
Wendy got her "Decade the Halls" all finished and quilted...sure turned out well.  The ladies rose to the challenge this mystery quilt made for them...they are all beautiful.
Beth got a few projects finished....including this wonderful snowman table topper...done in homespun and so neat looking.
This is a table runner that she made a while ago and finally got it all done.  bravo, Beth.
Plus, Beth got her "Smitten with Mittens" table topper all sandwiched and ready for quilting...sure feels good to get some UFO's up and running along with a few PHD"s...right , Beth?
Linda robbed Peter to pay Paul...made this wonderful purse and stole the handles from another to finish it off... Necessity is the Mother of Invention and we all know that Linda is extremely practical and inventive...figures things out real quick.  Great bunch of worker those ladies of the evening...and fun to work with.....

January 12,2016

We're back from our Christmas break and Marilyn got right down to it with the ladies of the evening...they made these scissor cozies for their first evening back.
This beautiful pillow was a gift...lucky Marilyn!
Here's next month's project for the night time group.  This is an ironing board with a pocket to hold your cutting ruler.  Neat pattern and so convenient for those away from home projects.
Agathe fell in love with the scrappy nine patch and made another for the cancer quilt project we have on the go....another beauty with flannel backing.
This one...again with gorgeous fabrics has a patterned fabric for the sashing...just a little different but equally beautiful.
Lilliane is hiding behind this sweet little snowman wall hanging she made.
Ellen has kept her fingers busy using up her wool scraps ...a work in progress.
This is Gail's cancer quilt from the envelope patterns...such soft pastels ...sure is pretty...
Sheila wanted to remind us that spring will come and brought these chick-a-dees so we wouldn't forget what spring is like.
Judith made this neat project of clothes line cord, scraps of fabric and some inventive zigzagging....a fun project to be sure.
some primitive stars to hang on the tree..
Joan is hiding behind her table runner...we still know it's you....
Carolyn knit this gorgeous sweater loaded with cables...I believe she said it was For her daughter in law or With her daughter in law...either way it's magnificent...
Jean got into the cuddle quilt mode and made this.....
and this.  Simple patterns, sweet fabric and wonderful quilts.
Cynthia made this cancer quilt top, along with a bag to carry it...it's now in line to be quilted.
She also did a set of Christmas tree napkins...busy lady.
This gorgeous scrappy quilt was made by Renate...half square triangles and simply beautiful....I like the way it was put together and the colours are so well balanced...bet she didn't just put the values in a bag and sew what came next...
THis pretty quilt will go to some happy little girl...wonder who Evelyn made this one for?

One of our nine patch comfort quilts...hand quilted by the guild and then bound by Ellen Henderson.  It's a good thing we have quilters that like to hand sew the binding...
Gillian will have the best dressed little grand daughter with these delightful crocheted hats.  Bet she loves her Grandma!
