Villa Madonna 2018

It was quilt retreat time at the Villa Madonna and we had a wonderful time.  Carolyn wowed us with this gorgeous, summery nine patch.  She bought the fabric in Florida and enjoyed piecing it. It was finish up time at the villa.
Judy brought out a PHD that she started a few ....ahem....years ago and decided she really should finish .  It was a block of the month from some time ago...not mentioning the years...you can ask her.
This sweet quilt is being finished by Jean Thompson and includes fat quarters from her special birthday.
On the floor is a jelly roll mat that Marilyn made.  It is the third one she has made since she got the instructions although this one is not made with a jelly roll , she used left over fabric from a quilt she made. Works for me...
This is one of my projects. It is the 150 Canadian women  project that was started last year by Kat Tucker from Calgary. She posted three patterns per week along with the write-ups about each woman. Some very interesting reading there and it was a real eye opener to learn all the amazing things that these some historic and some current women did. The big heart at the bottom right corner was for Mom...appropriate since she was such an influence on my life.
Susan...the wonder kid of baby quilts showed us her latest project. Isn't it a real cutie!
This is the second project I got finished at the Villa the row by row experience for 2017. Went light sashing this time. A big change for me since I am a jewel tone fan.
This beauty belongs to Sharon. She and Leigh worked like demons to get it completely organized. The camera does not do it justice, plus the actual finished arrangement took care of some of the proximity of like fabrics.
Look at this table runner that Pat the Irish quilter put together...she did a wonderful job.
Janice is hiding behind the roaring waves she put together...the second set of fingers belong to Marilyn. It is an easy bargello type quilt and the shades are perfect.
Not a disappearing nine patch like we thought...it is a  block pattern that Susan found on a quilt calendar and decided it would be perfect in a quilt and , of course, she was right.  The lime green was the perfect accompaniment.
Ethel is posing for this photo...looking a little slimmer beside this wonderful snowball quilt she finally got finished...then she went to work on an Irish Chain that she had started a while back.
We were delighted to have Patti with us this year and she was working on a memory quilt ...actually two of them ....for her sons.  They both included fabric from her husband's shirts.  What great heirlooms for them.
Lois ...our knitter....was busy making these sweet little caps...so simple and so darn cute. You just know little girls will love these.
Girls...you look so serious...and you shouldn't because it is now the way it is supposed to be.  Marilyn got tired and sewed one row the wrong way.  After a couple of attempts at unsewing she got it arranged properly. It is a Carpenter's Star. The fabric is gorgeous.
Here's Ethel working on that Irish Chain I mentioned earlier.
These...when totally finished will be Christmas greetings on Mug rugs, Candle mats, or large coasters...what ever you like...they were made by Carolyn.....
see...here's the proof.
Susan is mightily pleased ...she learned how easy it is to put in a zipper in the Emmaline Bag showing here.
Judy had fun....working on a square she worked on last year...we are waiting to see this quilt when it is all put together...each square is amazing and the quilt will be extraordinary when all done...you just wait and see!!

April 17, 2018

Today is program day and the ladies turned out in force.  Considering the fact that it was an intricate pattern , it sure was nice to see.  Here's Ann showing Gail just how it is being created.
Judith is seriously working and very focused...I guess that is why she gets so many involved and gorgeous things done.
Helen said she's taken this apart and redone it a couple of times to get it just right. Don't fret, Helen, it will be just great.
Evelyn is getting to the last stage....
Elsie did enough for the morning and no doubt will bring it in all finished next meeting.
Sandra is getting there....almost ready for the next step.
Kaye is enjoying the process and we'll see her finished project next time.
Now for show and tell. This sweet wall hanging is the row by row from last year (Fabric Cupboard's pattern). Love the buttons!
Susan is back in her comfort zone with co-ordinating colours and in her favourite fabric colours.
Leigh started this last spring and finished it this spring....sure fits the season...so bright and perky.  Personal choice here...love white backgrounds...clean, fresh and pretty.
Evelyn showed us her progress to date.
Now this masterpiece is by Vera....we fully expect to see a ribbon dangling from this stunning quilt at our quilt show in September. It is hand appliqued, embroidered and quilted. So well done!
Judith likes the Three Dudes and the Missouri Quilt Co.'s adaption so she did this as well.
A class from Karen Neary on wonky lines produced these placemats.
Now this is an interrupted panel I can get on board with...looks like a view out on a snowy winter day at the farm. Since that is what it is supposed to be Judith was more than successful.

Love It!!

April 16, 2018

It was a small group this evening but no less the proficient.  Here Carolyn shows the quilt as you go baby quilt she made. A fun project and quick to make when you're short of time.
This amazing quilt was done by Evelyn and it is a wonder. The circles connect and create secondary patterns.  Very unique!
This stunner is also by Evelyn and shows an ultra-modern bent.  She saw it on pinterest for the back of a quilt and decided it would look great as a front...she certainly was correct about that.  The quilting design gave it an added fillip and made it gorgeous.
Marilyn brought her messenger back all done, with the zipper easily installed and some added pockets.  It always amazes me when someone adapts a pattern and makes it even better.
Evelyn brought a work in progress..a log cabin she is making by paper piecing using tracing paper for the foundation.  It sure would make removing the paper a lot easier.
And here is her applique pillow (my title for it since that is what I use mine for) or pillow for hand piecing...your choice.

Thank you Marilyn for taking pictures for me while I watched Ethel take care of the luncheon matters.  It helps to have help and I appreciate it most sincerely.

Here is our raffle quilt. You can buy tickets at the quilt show......the one I made for myself is my absolute favourite quilt.  It fits my bed the best.
Ethel is hiding behind this gorgeous pieced wreath. Love the greens she used.
This is the first of Susan's projects....snow globes.
This beautiful blue Hunter's Star is a wedding gift. the picture does not do the fabulous shades of blue justice.
And this is the third piece by Susan. A glorious wall hanging.
Cynthia got busy and made these adorable kittens.
Sharon made this....I didn't get to see it close up as I was kitchen bound ...it looks like a landscape...
and this is her window valance...good job, Sharon.
Leigh made one of those "what was I thinking" projects that turned into a colourful bag.
Sandra is hiding behind this table runner..she made it for the 150th and is calling it 151st.
This project came from a half yard bundle she purchased.
And this is another gorgeous project by Sandra.
Elsie got her valance done and it looks great.
This sweet quilt is a snowman, all topsy-turvy and made by Jean
Judy made this quilt for her son who passed it down to her grand son and it held up very well except for certain colours...blacks, no less. Any way, Grandma Judy fixed it all up.
Evelyn got her valance done as well, in shades of burgundy and soft greens.
Jacqui got into pineapple quilting and made this quilt.
Renate got caught up with her BOM ...only one more to go.
This stunner is by Joan...she has such an eye for shading..beautifully done.
