JANUARY 9, 2024 Show and Tell

Monthly Meeting was held Jan 9, 2024. There was also Show and Tell, a demonstration on half square triangles and a preview of the next workshop.

Gail F
showed  a garbage bag for a car. For the lining she used waterproof fabric from a backpack. Pattern free online.

Gail's 12 Days of Christmas Quilt has a distinctive Canadian flair.

Muriel G. got a quantity of striped fabric at a Flea Market. She made a camping/outdoor quilt from That fabric with some recycled denim. Even her carry bag, which can be seen on the floor, is denim.

Debbie F. brought in her laptop so we could see a fairly large photo of her Carpenter's Star barn quilt. Here is her description:
This barn quilt was crafted by my daughter Lisa as a Christmas present for me a few years ago.
It is 8 feet x 8 feet, using two sheets of plywood. Making a barn quilt takes time. The pattern has to be drawn on the joined plywood and the colours painted one at a time and dried. There are 2-3 coats of paint for each colour and 3 coats of varnish for the finish. Painter's tape is used to keep the colours separated and the points sharp. A very special gift!

Marlene O. brought in this cabin pillow.

Sisters Sharon R. and Jane K. showed a Trip Around the World quilt. Quilt was pieced by Jane, hand quilted by both and scrappy border done by Sharon.

Judy S. pieced a mug rug. A colourful Christmas package.

Jane K.  showed her table runner. Christmas packages of various colours.
Jane also made charity items and passed them in.

Judy H. has made gift bags in a variety of fabrics and sizes.

Susan S. did blanket stitch on felt for the first time. Her bias binding on curves was a first as well.

Muriel G. did a demo on varied methods to make half square triangles. Her favourite technique seemed to be the accordion style.

Jackie J. gave us a preview of some panel quilts using the interrupted/deconstructed panel technique. This will be the topic of the upcomming workshop on January 23, 2023.
