Visit to Akerley Area Quilt Guild February 14, 2024

Members accepted an invitation extended by Akerley and Area Quilt Guild for lunch a program.

A travelling Fibre Art Network exhibit "Up Close" was enjoyed. Each piece was shown and description read out loud. Many pieces were for sale. Feel free to visit it online

We listened with interest to information about Victoria's Quilts.

Many in the group had Show and Tell items.

A fun project using a twister ruler.

Muriel G. brought along a half square triangle runner that she made years ago.

This project was a photo on fabric. Cats Sylvester, Juliet and Zoe were the subjects.

Judy H. showed a Bargello with very small pieces.

A purple sampler.

Susan S. showed her Metro Rings quilt.

Something most of us have never made, a Hippo.

Jane K. brought her paper pieced table runner.

I know this person's name is Ann and she knits socks.

Sharon R. made a pair of pillowcases.

This Kaleidoscope quilt was also referred to as a One Block Wonder.

Pretty Placemats

Birds are the theme of this winter wall hanging.

Such a pretty multi-coloured quilt.

Margaret Mc. praised the role of a quilt guild in teaching new things. She wore her very pretty quilted vest.

Another Metro Rings Quilt from the Sussex Guild. Diane G. made this pretty version of a workshop project.

A unique sampler quilt using scraps. last years mystery blocks.

This quilt was created by adding rows (strips) of fabric.

The Akerley Area Quilt Guild Banner was created using a map of where they are from.

Show and Tell February 13, 2024

Show and Tell followed the monthly meeting.

Jackie J. showed completed Attic Window projects, made from a panel. So nice to have matching throw pillows.

Gail R. has been working on the panel she cut during the workshop. She plans to hang her Attic Window project on the wall of a room currently without a window.

Ethel R. made pillowcases out of lovely cardinal fabric. She also presented a raw edge Hunter's Star project.

Vera T. showed this sweet Valentine's project made in 2010.

Brenda S. showed a quilt made from 2 1/2 inch strips, it was quilted on a longarm.

The Rose quilt was made from a free pattern, Pixelated Rose by Riley Blake Design. she told us it is made up of 1194, 2 1/2 inch squares, and the quilting was 250,000 stitches. We also took notice of Brenda's bag made from sunflower fabric.

Agathe K. brought along a lovely quilt with Fireside backing.

Her second project is made from bright coloured scraps, and just look at that backing.

Diane B. displayed her baby quilt.

She followed with a lovely Chandelier Quilt. Often presenters are asked to show the back of the project too.

Judy H. has been making tiny quilts again and even has room for a label on the back.

Jane K. finished a Hardanger project that was tucked into a book . Books were brought in by Gail F. to be given away. Jane is skilled at Hardanger so how appropriate that she found this work in progress.

She also made a thermal table runner.

Susan S. finished her panel project. She kept the border intact because it was directional and built the centre to fit.

She showed this quilt as well. We learned that Susan does her hand quilting on a hoop.

Agathe K. was gifted an assortment of fat quarters to celebrate a special birthday.

Some examples of the Guild Trade Blocks were shown. So very sorry that I missed getting pictures of Jean T.'s blocks that were shown during the meeting.

Helen S. gave us lots of usable information on the best use of batiks, large prints and fussy cut fabrics. She also had words of wisdom about honoring copywrite laws. She brought along finished objects (FO's), works in progress (WIP's), and unfinished objects (UFO's). She even had information on rug hooking.
