Autumn Splendor 2018

What a wonderful show we put on this year! It is always a worry that things aren't going to happen....that it will be stressful and difficult to put together BUT it wasn't....the set up went very smoothly...thanks to two wonderful DH's (Dear Husbands) that set up our racks and then helped put the quilts up as well. Their help was so very much appreciated.  We were ready to open doors at 11:30.....amazing!!
The above picture ...this one and the next picture show what greeted you when you came into the Legion on Magnolia Avenue, in Sussex.  A mini show before the big show.  Cynthia and Judith decorated and , as usual, did a phenomenal job. So festive and welcoming!

This is what your eye caught the moment you walked in....eye candy for a quilter.  That beautiful applique quilt of Vera's placed second for people's choice for bed quilts. It was my choice for first...not only for the applique, the quilting was spectacular.
This corner was a celebration and just a little pat on the back for SVQG....it was a display of the wonderful projects our quilters have taken on to give back to the communities we live in....our special concern is, of course, women's health issues...particularly breast cancer. We also wanted to honour a special lady in our Guild...Vivian Patriquen....she is 101years young and rarely , if ever, comes to guild without show and tell. Those two heart quilts are hers , that she donated to our cuddle quilt program.....such a treasure.

This is the back wall of the show where we stash the vendors...after looking at the quilts and the displays , visitors can spend a little cash and add to their own stash.

We had a good number of bed quilts this time and a great variety....pieced, appliqued, modern, hand quilted and machine quilted....a little bit for everyone.

This is our Canada 150 display...a year later but a great showing nonetheless.  The quilt on the right is the 150 Canadian women. The quilt in the centre is a block of the month celebrating the 150th and the other things were made by the quilters as their personal contribution to the anniversary.
This is the Guild Corner...just to show a few of the things that our guild does throughout the years between our shows. As you can see, we do a variety of projects...both small and large. We have fun , too.!
The second quilt in this row placed first for People's Choice in bed size quilts. It is a hand appliqued, machine pieced and hand quilted quilt called Reminiscence.
Here's a view from the cookie and tea spot to wards the entrance.  The girls are gearing up for another great day of talking to fellow quilters.
Our wall hanging category...the second place winner was the sheep wall hanging by Judith Hughes and first place is the Radiant Landscape by Leigh Smith ...the miniature next to the long wall hanging with the four houses.
These were considered true miniatures by our definition...they had to be a maximum of 12 inches square or have a total of 48 inches all around. As you can see there are a few brave souls that enjoy the process.
This beauty is the quilt we sold tickets on. The winner was drawn at the close of our show . It was picked by Marjorie Hazelwood, since she was responsible for the most tickets to be sold. She closed her eyes swirled the tickets around  and picked the winner....lo and behold it was for Helen Steeves, a Guild Member...congratulations to her.

I don't know how successful the show was monetarily but I do know it was a great success all around...we had loads of cookies, tea and coffee...there were numerous  words of praise. I met friends and fellow quilters from all around the province.  The weather cooperated a little bit but then a little rain never stopped a quilter when she has the opportunity to look at quilts...I guess you could say we're all a little obsessed.

Program Day September 25, 2018

What a wonderful program day!  This lovely lady is Melany Wade and she came dressed to impress...as her character Fannie from 1867. It began as a project for Canada 150 and did she ever do an amazing job with her costume. It was as authentic as it could possibly be.  She knew her stuff and regaled us with how  a lady dressed in that era. I know one thing...I am sure glad I didn't live in the Victorian era.  Over forty pounds of material from the 'unmentionables' to the special collar, the gathered fabric for the dress and pre-bustle, to the special sleeves and crinolines.  Even the parasol had the same design that was relevant in the 1600's. We enjoyed hearing about Fannie's ability to sew and quilt and what it was like having to change two to three times daily. Amazing to say the least...it kept me absorbed!
Judy started show and tell with her contribution to the Poppy Project that Cindy from Crafter's Vineyard challenged us with.
Patty...who is a hand piecer and hand quilter showed us her beautiful quilt made especially for her little piece of heaven in Elgin.

She also made these star pictures ....she secured them to painter's canvas and hung them on her wall....what an ingenius idea!!
Mary made this sampler...from "Little Women" and it has authentic Civil War fabrics...so pretty!
Her DH  bought her a fabric kit and she made this wonderful quilt...seems to me her DH is a keeper.
Elsie tells us that she made 25 of these ponchos over the summer holidays...busy woman!

Judith...who is always finding amazing retreats and classes to attend .....returned with her version of the curved Log Cabin using a special ruler. I bet she had fun!
Leigh just had to share some teeny weeny little quilts that she did this summer...here is her little houses......
another tiny quilt.....
and her circular folded fabric project. Nice to keep busy and have a lot to show for it.
This is Cynthia's quilt ...Smitten ,; using Kansas troubles fabric.
And Agate finally got to finish a quilt for herself....what with all the long arm demands she's had....that would be miraculous.
That Vivian...we just can't keep up with her...she did her president's challenge so Helen held it up for us to see. It's hard to keep a good woman down!
This beauty is Carolyn's...it is king sized and gorgeous.....it will be in the show...come see for yourself.....

September 11, 2018

September show and tell started with Marilyn showing just a little of what she has been busy doing all summer....this is one of many folios that she made.....the neat thing about them is that they are gifts....she is always organized and ready...typical teacher wouldn't you say?
This neat little thing is a door handle pocket...ideal for those odds and ends that need to go into specific rooms or just a place to store keys. She said they were easy to make...we shall see.....
This is another neat gadget she made....vinyl see through pockets , one with a zipper ....it folds over and is great for those little projects that don't require a lot of 'stuff' to make.
Hallowe'en is coming and Marilyn is ready with this table topper of fall and hallowe'en fabrics....a quick project she said with the half hexie ruler and a little ambition.
Cynthia made this bench pillow for Autumn....not only in fall colours but for the quilt show decorations...she'll do an amazing job....she does every time.
This too will be displayed in the decor for the quilt show.
This amazing piece is the memorium she did to honour her father who served in  WW2. It, too will be displayed in our quilt show.
There was a little grumble about the lack of fall quilts for the decor...seems that no one had any so Cynthia fixed that little problem and made this one to display.
A quilt made for her grand daughter with some left over for her to make one for herself....makes sense to me.
This sweet quilt was made by our very own special lady...Vivian Patriquen. She said it kept her occupied this summer with all that heat and humidity. It went to the cuddle quilt program.

This gorgeous quilt was also made by Vivian to go to our comfort quilt program . She is such an amazing person. Always happy , with a smile for everyone.
Judith is into miniatures.  This one is outside the perimeters set down by the quilt show committee but it is still a wee quilt and most worthy.
But this one does fit in the miniature category....12 inches square is the maximum for our quilt show.  Such tiny little pieces...instant insanity, wouldn't you say?
Renate is hiding behind this strippy quilt she made.  She is giving it away but didn't tell us to whom.
Eleanor...a new member...I hate to say 'old' member but she rejoined after a long hiatus..here is the stunning quilt she made. Her daughter has been trying to claim it but Mom has held on...at least until later in the year...shhh....don't tell!
And here  is a lovely wall hanging she did for September. Eleanor is recuperating from strokes and quilting has been her therapy and motivation....nice to see it works.
Mary found some squares in her stash and decided they should be put together in a quilt......not sure what else one could do with them so well.
Muriel changed her decor...see that red in the centre of her table topper...seems that DH (that's Dear/Darling Husband for you non bloggers) picked out an area rug that matches perfectly and Muriel is so proud of him...as she should be, most men don't even notice.
This is the Remembrance Fabric challenge that Cindy from Crafter's Vineyard presented to the members. Muriel made a runner and placemats to match.

Well, we are off to a great start this year....lots of summer work being shown. It's a quilt show year, so I will have lots of pictures of our show ..see you there!
